Blackberry Habanero Syrup

This Blackberry Habanero Syrup is great for pancakes, waffles, or French toast. Also maybe good in cocktails, but I have not tried that….. yet. Don’t be worried. It’s not all that hot. Just a ting of spice and pepper flavor.

Ingredients:

3 Cups of blackberries

1 Cup sugar

1 Cup water

3 Tablespoons lemon juice

2 Habanero peppers.

Quarter the habaneros and take the seeds and membrane out. Add blackberries to sauce pan.

Add sugar, water, lemon juice, and habanero peppers. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Boil for 2 minutes. Then remove from heat for about 10 minutes. Taste syrup for heat level. It will gain some heat in a day or so. If you want more add another habanero, and blend again. for me it’s not about the heat. More about a hint of spice, but do what you do if you want more heat.

Blend with a emulsion blender or pour into a regular blender if you don’t have one. Blend till smooth. Funnel into a bottle or bottles. I have a bunch of these hot sauce bottles. So I used them. If you like your syrup smoother funnel through some cheese cloth. I like to see to particles of berries and habaneros in it. It is good to go now. Just remember after a day or so it’ going to have some time to “love it’s self”. It will get a little more heat and sweetness. I try to make it a day before for full flavor.
